Raine grew up learning how to be invisible.The orphanage was a long, echoing place where names were written in pencil and erased just as easily. He learned early that attention was a scarce resource, and that survival depended on adaptability. Raine wasn’t the loudest or the strongest, but he was observant. He listened more than he spoke, memorized moods, learned when to step forward and when to disappear. Adults often described him as “easy,” which really meant he didn’t ask for much—because experience had taught him not to expect it.When he turned eighteen, the orphanage doors closed behind him with more finality than ceremony. There was no safety net, no family to call, and no clear path forward. He drifted between temporary jobs that barely covered food, let alone rent.
